THE KING GEORGE IV Inn - offering a warm welcome, good food & accommodation in Eskdale Green

Self catering accommodation in Eskdale Valley, The Lake District The King George IV Inn, Eskdale Green, is a centuries old traditional Cumbrian inn offering good food, real ales, malt whiskies and a choice of self catering accommodation including our new, luxury cabin. Refurbished in July 2010, the new owners extend a warm welcome to all visitors to the Eskdale Valley, whether you're staying with us, having a meal or simply stopping for refreshments on your journey.

Standing at the head of one of England's finest valleys, the inn is conveniently situated on the T-junction at the end of the narrow road that runs through the valley from Hardknott Pass - Englands steepest road!

It is said there has been an inn on the site since Roman times and we have endeavoured to retain the traditional country charm whilst offering comfortable surroundings in which to relax and have a drink and meal. The inn boasts open fires, oak beamed ceilings and original slate flagged floors (so walkers are welcome at all times without having to remove their boots at the door!).

The King George The King George IV is deceptively large with two distinct bar areas, a restaurant and external seating for a further 40 in the patio areas. We are a dog-friendly pub and happy for any obedient dog to join you inside, asking only that you keep your pet close to you. We have welcomed many a weary walker and their canine friends to the King George - the perfect excuse to take your dog for a walk!

We stock a good selection of local ales plus a choice of bottled or draught lager, wines and soft drinks. We also have a huge selection of malt whiskies for you to sample.

The Eskdale Valley is an excellent base for any holiday or weekend away. With so many scenic walks starting within the valley you could stay a week and never need to use the car. Indeed this is one of the big attractions to the many people who come back year after year, especially those with children - with a single road running along the valley and Hardknott and Wrynose Passes at the other end, the Eskdale Valley experiences far less traffic than most places in the Lake District.
